Ordering the correct quantity of materials is the first step and most important step in minimising building material waste. Laing Homes achieve this by using very detailed material inventories, which we have developed, based on many years of experience.
The next step is to ensure if there are any surplus materials that they are recovered so that they can be reused on the next job. At Laing Homes we recover and store surplus materials in a container on site. As we build many new homes of similar design we can always use surplus new materials on the next job. Waste is kept to an absolute minimum and we believe we produce only half of the waste that is generated by an on-site build.
At the end of each project we may have some surplus MaximPanel. This is kept and sold to customers who wish to make shelves or additional storage areas.
Our painting subcontractors are encouraged to clean their brushes and tines in a special wash area. This ensures that the ground is not contaminated with paint and the construction area is kept tidy.
