FAQs

What services does Laing Properties offer?

Laing Properties provides prefab homes, onsite builds, secondhand relocatable homes, building removal and relocation services, and commercial developments across the South Island.

Do I need to own land before contacting you?

No. Many clients contact us before purchasing land. We can help assess site suitability and provide guidance on what to look for before committing.

Can I visit a show home?

Yes. We recommend booking a show home viewing to ensure availability, as some visits are by appointment. Walk-ins are welcome during opening hours where possible.

Where does Laing operate?

We operate across the South Island, subject to delivery access for our prefab homes and building relocations. Additionally, we offer onsite construction and renovation works in the wider Christchurch and surrounding areas.

How early should I get in touch before building?

The earlier the better. Early conversations help with budgeting, timelines, site requirements, and overall planning, even if you are still researching.

How much does a prefab home cost?

Pricing depends on the design, size, inclusions, site conditions, and location. We provide clear pricing guidance once we understand your requirements.

What is included in the base price?

Base pricing typically includes the house build, standard foundations, and delivery within a specified distance from our Rolleston yard. Optional upgrades and site-specific costs are outlined clearly.

Are there additional costs I should be aware of?

Additional costs can include site works, council fees, utility connections, transport beyond standard distances, and custom upgrades. We explain these upfront so there are no surprises.

Can you help with finance advice?

Yes. We can connect you with lenders and advisors who specialise in prefab and transportable home financing.

Do you provide fixed pricing?

Where possible, we provide clear and transparent pricing. Final costs depend on site conditions, consent requirements, and selected options.

How does the prefab building process work?

Prefab homes are built in our controlled environment, then transported to site and installed. This allows for better quality control and shorter onsite build times.

How long does the build process take?

Timeframes vary depending on design, consents, and site readiness. Prefab builds are typically faster than traditional onsite builds once consents are approved.

Do you handle council consents?

Yes. We can manage the consent process or work alongside your preferred consultants, depending on your project requirements.

Can I customise a standard design?

Yes. All Laing designs can be customised to suit your needs, lifestyle, and site requirements.

Do you offer onsite builds as well?

Yes. In addition to prefab homes, we offer full onsite builds tailored to your design preferences and site conditions.

What is a relocatable home?

A relocatable home is an existing house that is moved from one site to another. These homes are renovated and brought up to current building standards.

Do you manage the entire relocation process?

Yes. We handle assessment, removal, transport, re-piling, and repositioning of relocatable homes.

Can I relocate a home I already own?

Yes. If you have an existing building you want relocated, we can assess its suitability and manage the process.

Do you undertake commercial developments?

Yes. We work on multi-unit, commercial, and development projects built to specific requirements and specifications.

Can you work with our consultants and architects?

Yes. We regularly collaborate with architects, designers, engineers, and client-appointed consultants.

Is Laing a Registered Master Builder?

Yes. Laing Properties is a Registered Master Builder and all eligible residential builds can be covered by the Master Build 10-Year Guarantee.

What does the Master Build Guarantee cover?

The guarantee covers structural defects, workmanship, and certain non-structural elements, providing long-term peace of mind after handover.
