Laing Properties has been a recognised and trusted name in the housing industry for over 40 years, with over 8000 building relocations completed and 600+ new homes built. South Peak Homes will join Laing Properties (and previously acquired brand Genius Homes) in Canterbury, based out of the South Island’s largest purpose-built facility for the construction of prefabricated buildings and homes.
In recent years, New Zealand’s construction industry has faced significant challenges, including rising costs and market uncertainty. Through this period, both companies demonstrated resilience through sustainable business practices, consistently delivering high-quality, reliable outcomes for their clients. Now, with positive signs of recovery on the horizon — supported by recent reductions in the Official Cash Rate and new government initiatives aimed at boosting housing supply — the timing is ideal for this exciting combination.
Bringing together South Peak Homes’ innovative designs and deep local West Coast expertise with Laing Properties’ extensive resources will ensure they are positioned to offer greater value, long-term stability, and wider choice to customers right across the South Island.

Operational Updates
Existing South Peak Homes clients can rest assured that they will continue to receive the same high standards of quality and service, now backed by enhanced manufacturing capacity and broader expertise. All current orders, warranties, and customer commitments will be fully honoured.
All buildings under construction at our Westport facilities will continue under the pre-existing contract terms and conditions.
Future building projects will be undertaken at Laing Properties headquarters in Rolleston, Canterbury. Clients who have signed contracts with South Peak Homes will still have their project completed in accordance with their agreed design, specifications, and pricing. Clients who have yet to sign a contract will have the option of including a Master Builders Guarantee for additional peace of mind should they opt for the Master Builders contract.

FAQs
- Will my home still be built in South Peak Homes' factory in Westport?
- If your house is currently under construction, it will be completed at the Westport factory. Any houses yet to being construction will now be built at Laing Properties' facilities in Rolleston, Canterbury.
- What if my home was originally planned to be built on the Coast?
- For clients whose homes were originally intended for coastal construction and are now being built in Rolleston, Laing Properties will complete regular video walkthroughs during construction and upload ongoing progress photos to the client portal to ensure clients remain connected throughout the build.
- Will clients be able to visit Laing Properties?
- Clients who have signed an agreement, paid a Home Start Agreement or been presented with a contract offer will be invited to Laing Properties’ Head Office to meet Managing Director Myles Laing, the wider team, and to view the Rolleston facility.
- Will travel costs be supported?
- Upon signing an arrangement or novating a contract, Laing Properties will compensate clients to assist with expenses incurred for their first visit to Laing Properties offices.
- Will my design or specifications change?
- No. All construction and delivery costs remain unchanged, providing certainty and assurance to clients.
- What happens to my existing South Peak Homes contract?
- Should you choose to, your contract will be novated to Laing Properties Limited. Your agreed price, design, specifications, and scope will remain unchanged.
- Will my home still be delivered on schedule?
- Homes under construction will be delivered per the agreed schedule. However, if you choose to have your contract novated to Laing Properties Limited, the timeframe may change.
- I have received a contract from South Peak Homes but not yet signed it. Do I still sign this?
- You will sign a version of the same contract you have already been presented with, but with the contracting party now being Laing Properties. Alternatively you can opt to sign a Registered Master Builders contract with similar terms.
- Can I include a Master Builders Guarantee?
- Yes. You will have the option to include a Master Builders Guarantee for additional peace of mind should you opt for the Master Builders contract.

- Can Laing Properties provide financial reassurance?
- Yes. Laing Properties is happy to provide a letter of solvency from its accountant confirming that the company is not trading insolvently.
- Will I still receive a 12-month defect free guarantee and a 10-year structural guarantee?
- For any clients who have a house in production, or their house was completed within the previous 12 months, the South Peak Homes defect-free guarantee and 10-year structural guarantee will continue, per the details in the contract agreement. For new clients, this guarantee will be replaced by the Laing 1-Year Maintenance Guarantee, with an optional 10-Year Master Build Guarantee
